Over the weekend, we went baby cot shopping at baby's hyperstore and baby kingdom at kaki bukit. these 2 shops are just next to one another (a few units away). I read online that their prices are cheaper than retail stores outside so we went to check it out.
BABY HYPERSTORE
They have 3 levels of shop space.: 1st floor is where they sell display units, I wouldn't even really consider this as 1 level of shopping. 2nd and 3rd level is where all the strollers, babycots and baby knick knacks are.
baby hyperstore have lots of strollers and car seats options here from a wide variety of brands such as Peg perego, Quinny, Maxi-Cosi, Maclauren etc. They have so much options that i felt so overwhelmed and confused the first time i was there that i have no idea where to start looking, so I suggest you do some research and homework before you go first so you can narrow down the ones that will fit your needs (eg. budget, weight, front-facing, or reversible, how you want it to be folded, etc.) One thing i dislike is alot of the strollers are placed in upper-deck shelves, so we need to get the sales assistant to carry it down for us to try. I'm the kind of customer who prefers to DIY and play around myself and hate having someone following me around, or having to trouble someone to serve me all the time.
They have quite a variety of baby cots as well, with quite a wide price range too from S$200+ to S$2000+. Again, it can be a very overwhelming experience, and the sales assistants there, though plenty, and always ready to serve, ain't really helpful in guiding or helping us make a decision. Alot of the answers they give are those "say and don't say is the same kind". so my suggestion is do plenty of homework and research first before going down, and when you're there, ask specific questions that you may have and not ask for opinions or "where do i start" kind of questions.

BABY KINGDOM
There's 2 levels of shopping at Baby Kingdom. and I'll say what they serve is pretty different from Baby Hyperstore.
On the 1st level are babycots, strollers etc. The brands they carry is mainly Graco and Bonbebe, so I'll say if you have a specific brand in mind, Baby Hyperstore and Baby Kingdom are 2 very different shops.
I personally prefer the sales people at Baby Kingdom. Upon learning that I've no idea where to start looking for a baby cot, the auntie brought me around, explained to me the differences, the different type of mattresses etc. I must say I walked out of the shop with with alot more knowledge about baby cots (and play pens). (I went to Baby Hyperstore before this, and I walked out as equally blur as before I walked in). I definitely have a better idea of the cot I need and know who to look for when I'm making my purchase.
2nd floor is more like a supermarket for baby stuffs. here you can get your philips avent sterilizer bundles, breast pumps, baby detergents etc etc.
there's not as many sales people following us around which makes us more comfortable.

Mothercare Baby Fair
The past weekend has been a babyfair weekend, with Mothercare babyfair happening at Harbourfront Centre, and Babyworld Fair happening at Expo.
This is our first time going to baby fairs, and were really excited, yet cautious about the crowds and long queues we heard so much about.
Was half decided to give the Mothercare baby fair a miss after hearing about 3 hours queue during the VIP preview. I certainly do not have the time nor energy to queue for that long. but since its so near to my office, I decide to pop by on Friday during lunch time. Was already prepared to queue, but to my delight, there's only a very short queue, and they have very thoughtfully prepared lines of chairs for us to seat (very thoughtful to mothers! :)). Only queued for like 5-10 mins, and went in.
The items on my to-buy list are baby cot, swaddle cloth, breast pump, avent bottle sterilizer , milk bottles & warmer and bath tub. and I kept reminding myself "Keep Calm. No more Clothes". =p
I realized having a buying list (and keeping to it) is very important, especially when shopping for baby as we tend to get so overwhelmed and excited over all the varieties and cuteness of everything before us. There seems to be this "soooo CUTE! buy!" kind of feeling with so many things I see, or "this looks useful! dunno need or not, but maybe I should buy?" and before long, my shopping basket is filled with lots of stuffs, most of which were not on my to-buy list. I'm glad I managed to be rationale in the last minute, and kept to my to-buy list (most of it that is). Too many people have warned me of going crazy and buying too much stuffs only to realize most are useless.
Bought the Philips Avent 4-in-1 Sterilizer Bundle at $199, which includes the 4-in-1 sterlizer, a newborn starter kit which has 2 newborm bottles, and 2 bottles for 1 month and above, and a warmer. Slightly cheaper than what I saw in OG the weekend before, and they give away a free nursing cover.
Got the Aden + Anais muslin swaddle cloth finally. I've been eyeing this for the longest time after reading so much about it, but could't bear to spend $70+ on it. Finally got it at $39.95. I'm a happy mummy. :)
Bought 2 tommee bottles at $3.90 each. I dunno anyhing about this brand, but it looks pretty premium with nice packaging, and since its on sale, I just grab. hope its a sensible buy.
and yes, I did buy a few more clothes. couldn't resist when I found this adorable 2 x 2 piece set (which means 2 tops, 2 pants) at only $8. and this cute pants at $5 (i love this pom pom design on their butt). and this 2 x super cute floral bib at $5.
decided not to buy the breast pump there (I'm eyeing a Spectra S2), as I realized Qoo10 is selling it at a much cheaper price.
So this sums up my first mothercare fair and I'm looking forward to the next one already. :D
